Young Man Dies After Suspected Church Climbing Stunt

Police are preparing a report for the coroner following the death of a 23-year-old man at a Gold Coast church.

It is believed the man from the United Kingdom was climbing St Vincent's Catholic Church in Surfers Paradise at around 2am on Sunday morning when he fell through a skylight.

A friend of his smashed a side window at the Hamilton Avenue building to enter and help him, but he sadly died at the scene.

Sunday church services were suspended.

The local Catholic community has extended its sympathies to the family and friends of those involved in the tragedy.
