There is a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for DAMAGING WINDS For people in parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands Forecast District.

Weather Situation:

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Port Douglas, Mareeba, Mossman and Daintree Village.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Herbert and Lower Burdekin districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219. 

POWER OUTAGES

Ergon Energy crews are responding to a number of storm-related outages around Cairns.

More than 5000 people are currently sitting in darkness as Ergon Energy work to fix a number of storm-related outages across Cairns. 

 Crews are patrolling the electricity network, looking for faults and any damage requiring emergency repairs. 

 If people see fallen powerlines, they should stay well away, warn others and report the life-threatening hazard to emergency services on 000 or call Ergon Energy on 13 16 70.

 The number one priority of crews will be to make the area safe for the community before restoring the electricity supply as soon as practically possible.
