Election signs seem to have popped up almost overnight on most corners across our region.

But some could be getting the flick...

Townsville City Council crews are conducting a crackdown on illegally installed election signage on Council-owned land and assets.

A Townsville City Council spokesperson said Council crews would be removing any election material that was positioned in areas that are unlawful.

“Council is very mindful that the community is subject to significant visual pollution during elections and we want to do what we can to reduce that impact,” the spokesperson said.

“All candidates have been notified that Council crews will be removing election signs or material that are positioned in areas unlawfully.

“Council crews will be patrolling the entire community from the city to the suburbs to ensure that candidates comply with the rules governing election campaign materials and the impact on residents is reduced.”

Council crews can only remove illegal election signage on Council-owned land and assets.

The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads has responsibility to remove illegal election signage from state-controlled roads.
