What Did Becoming A Parent Make You Appreciate?
Serena Williams says her body
Serena Williams has revealed that becoming a parent has given her a renewed appreciation for her body.
In a recent interview with British Vogue, the tennis star shared that she didn't always feel she fit into society's standard of beauty. However, her three-year-old daughter Olympia has been an inspiration and reminder to her of the value of her own body.
“How amazing that my body has been able to give me the career that I’ve had, and I’m really thankful for it. I only wish I had been thankful sooner. It just all comes full circle when I look at my daughter.”
She also shared with the magazine that increased representation in the media has helped her embrace her body image as well.
“When I was growing up, what was celebrated was different. Venus [Serena's older sister] looked more like what is really acceptable: she has incredibly long legs, she’s really, really thin. I didn’t see people on TV that looked like me, who were thick. There wasn’t positive body image. It was a different age.”
Nick, Jess and Simon decided to find out what else becoming a parent has made people appreciate.
