The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for heavy rainfall in parts of West and South Gippsland today.

Between 30 and 50 millimetres are expected to fall in the region today, however totals up to 100 millimetres are possible, which has led to an initial flood watch for the Latrobe, Thomson and Bunyip River and Traralgon Creek.

The Bureau of Meteorology's Jason Taylor told Hit FM he is expecting large parts of the population to be affected by the weather, which will carry through today and into tomorrow. "Whenever you need to start making decisions about the preparations that you might take, refer to the latest guidance from the Bureau and that will inform your decision about what preparations you undertake to help respond to the event."
