Looking for a new job in 2019? A recruitment drive is under way for new Victorian female prison officers.

About a third of the state's prison officers are women and there is a push to draw more women to the profession in 2019 and beyond.

The state government is recruiting for an all-female prison officer training squad of 30, beginning on Monday.

The candidates will undergo eight weeks of training before starting work at Melbourne maximum-security women's prison, the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre.

Corrections Victoria Commissioner Emma Cassar encouraged women with all kinds of professional and life experience to apply.
