A Melbourne couple have been fined a whopping $4000 each by Police for breaching Covid restrictions after testing positive for COVID-19. 

The couple were found to have lied on their declaration passes after allegedly travelling to the Sunshine Coast, QLD through Goondiwindi from Victoria. 

Police have said the couple allegedly provided misleading information to acquire a valid Queensland Border Declaration Pass.

The couple entered Queensland on June 5th while Melbourne was in lockdown as a result of ongoing Covid-19 cluster discoveries.

Police were tipped off after the 44-year-old woman tested positive on June 9th for Covid-19 with her male companion also testing positive shortly after. 

As a result, massive contact tracing efforts have been launched across South East Queensland to eliminate the chance of an outbreak. 

The pair were sent to hospital to recover from the virus and were later questioned by police. 

They have since been fined $4, 003 each.
