Victoria's Covid numbers are back up as the state reported 1638 new infections on Thursday and sadly two deaths.

The cases were reported from 77,238 test results processed on Wednesday.

With more than 35,000 vaccines administered by state-run centres in the past 24 hours, around 83 per cent of Victorians aged over 16 have now received their first jab, while 54.5 per cent are double dosed.

Meanwhile, the state's regions remain on high alert as Covid cases have been appearing in parts of country Victoria.

Covid commander Jeroen Weimar revealed on Wednesday that rapid response testing teams had been deployed across the state to help track outbreaks.

“We have our rapid response testing teams out there across a whole number of locations including Wangaratta, Traralgon, to support the Latrobe Valley, Warrnambool, Kerang, Warragul and Ballarat, Ararat and Bacchus Marsh and across all of those regional locations and yesterday we completed over 1500 tests”

Despite escalating cases, the Andrews government remain determined to lift lockdowns once 70 per cent of the state's population are fully vaccinated.
