Victoria recorded 603 new locally acquired COVID cases on Tuesday and sadly one death.

Health authorities are yet to reveal how many cases are linked to current outbreaks and how many were in the community while infectious.

There were 48,829 Victorians who rolled up their sleeves for a Covid vaccine on Monday, bringing the state's tally to 72.6 per cent of eligible Victorians having received one dose of the jab, while 44.1 per cent are double-vaxxed.

Meanwhile, could be a step closer to vaccinating more kids with Pfizer declaring its vaccine safe for children aged five to 11.

Pfizer tested a much lower dosage for primary school-aged children, equaling a third of the amount in each shot given now and delivering similar or fewer temporary side effects than what teenagers experience.

Pfizer and German partner BioNtech are applying to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) later this month for emergency use in the younger age group, followed by applications to European and British regulators.

Australia's drug regulator, the Theraputic Goods Administration [TGA] will also need to approve it before it's available to this age group.
