Victoria recorded a spike in Covid cases on Thursday with 2297 new infections and sadly 11 deaths.

A new national record, it’s the first time since the start of the pandemic that an Australian state or territory has reported over 2000 infections.

The new cases were identified from 82,762 swabs registered on Wednesday.

Despite the high figure, the state's seven-day average falls with the Burnet Institute's modelled peak of between 1,400 to 2,900 by the end of October.

More than 86 per cent of Victorians aged over 16 have received their first dose of vaccine, while 61.5 per cent are fully immunised.

Health authorities have established more pop-up vaccine clinics across Melbourne's north and south-east, in a bid to expediate the rollout in vulnerable communities where clusters are gathering.

Meanwhile, the Mitchell Shire, in Melbourne's north, was delivered out of lockdown at midnight.
