Police have charged two men following investigations into the alleged theft of a dog from a Cairns North street last week.

It will be alleged that the two-year-old pug escaped from a residence last Wednesday and ran off. A man who was seen standing on the footpath in Digger Street was observed to pick the dog up and then give it to another man in a vehicle, which then drove off.

The incident was reported and as part of their investigations, police attended a Lake Street address the following day. It is alleged that upon entering the residence, officers observed a quantity of cannabis in a bowl.

A search of the residence allegedly located a quantity of cannabis and drug related paraphernalia.

A 46-year-old Cairns North man was charged with three drug-related offences and is scheduled to appear at Cairns Magistrates Court on April 9.

Police then attended another address in Rollinia Close at Manoora where it’s alleged the dog subject to the stealing complaint was located and seized. The animal was subsequently returned to the rightful owner.

Officers spoke with a 39-year-old Manoora man at the address and he was later charged with one count of stealing. The man is scheduled to appear at Cairns Magistrates Court on April 15.
