A big carrot is being dangled for train drivers to make sure they show up for work during the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

According to News Corp, they will be offered a bonus of $1250 if they simply turn up for their shifts.

It's in a bid to avoid another 'rail-fail' type scenario, when short-staffing on Christmas Day 2016 led to hundreds of services being cut at the last minute, leaving passengers stranded.

Some are likening the payment to a bribe, but Queensland Rail bosses claim the incentives are common for events of this scale.
