A Total Fire Ban (TFB) has been declared for the Mallee, Wimmera, South West, Northern Country, North Central and Central (includes Melbourne and Geelong) on Saturday 17 March from 00:01 to 23:59 on Saturday 17 March.

Saturday’s conditions are predicted to be Severe in Mallee, Wimmera, South West, Northern Country and Central (includes Melbourne and Geelong), while Very High conditions are expected in North Central. It will be a warm to hot day with moderate North to North Westerly winds and predicted temperatures reaching the mid to high 30’s across the state.

CFA State Duty Officer Greg Christison said the declaration of a TFB should act as a reminder that the summer fire season is not over and that we need to remain vigilant and be prepared.

“Saturday’s hot and windy conditions could make it difficult for firefighters to suppress a fire should one start, therefore we are asking people to take heed of the Total Fire Ban conditions," Mr Christison said.

“People need to be aware of the increased fire danger and ensure your fire plan covers all possible contingencies.”

TFBs mean no fire can be lit in the open air or allowed to remain alight from 12.01am to 11.59pm on the day of the Total Fire Ban.
