Residents across NSW are warned of escalated fire danger due to the hot, dry and windy conditions today.

A total fire ban has been put in place by the NSW Rural Fire Service, with several small bushfires already popping up across the state.

Currently there are blazes in Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie and north of Byron Bay, all of which have been brought under control.

“Already this summer we have seen record-breaking temperatures in many areas,” NSW RFS Commissioner Fitzsimmons said, reports the Daily Telegraph.

“This week we will see strong south westerly to westerly winds develop and coupled with the heat we’ve already experienced, the landscape is very susceptible to fire.

"That’s why it’s so important that landholders, homeowners, businesses and travellers seriously consider how they could be impacted and start planning now."

Temperatures across the state will reach the mid to low 30s, with 40C predicted for western Sydney.
