Here are just six of the epic road trips you and your mates can hit up just outside of Adelaide...

Port Elliot

Travel Time: 1 hour 21 minutes

Have the perfect weekend away at Port Elliot, or spend a whole week soaking up everything the beach lifestyle has to offer.

Port Elliot is a charming historic town set on scenic Horseshoe Bay. Its popularity as a holiday destination lies in the fabulous beaches and the relaxed coastal atmosphere.

Quality local produce and wine options make a visit to the Fleurieu Peninsula an experience to savour. Why not stop at one of the beautiful wine regions along the way to Port Elliot?

Wine lovers have four distinct wine regions to explore, including McLaren Vale nearby Langhorne Creek, Currency Creek and Southern Fleurieu - all offer superb wine and intimate cellar door experiences.

Yorke Peninsula

Travel Time: 2 hours 22 mins

How does more than 700kms of Coastline sound??

If you’re looking for a family playground with sun, sea and sand, it’s hard to go past Yorke Peninsula. Stunning beaches and friendly coastal towns beckon, while inland are historic mining villages and spectacular national parks.

Blessed by nature and embraced by sea, Yorke Peninsula is a world apart. Here are magnificent beaches and jagged shorelines, friendly locals and rich farmland.

Barossa Valley

Travel Time: 1 hour 11min

There are SO many different wine regions within easy drive of Adelaide, but one of the most historic is the Barossa Valley.

With so much to do, from wine tasting to enjoying the beautiful food produce this region has to offer, why wouldn’t you take a short day trip here?

There’s something very special about the Barossa. You can feel it in the landscape, in the people, the food and the wine. It’s a beautiful region, with villages, vineyards and farms dotting a patchwork vista. Barossans are famous for their generous hospitality, their love of a shared table and their passion for local food and wine. Festivals, celebrations, markets and music thrive here. Barossa is life’s great pleasures, in one unique place.

Clare Valley

Travel Time: 1 hour 30 mins

This is a place to relax, unwind and soak up the good life. Wind your way through a cluster of villages and wineries, nestled in a picturesque valley. Marvel at the patchwork of pristine farmland, admire the elegant rows of vines and be inspired by the natural beauty of the region.

Just an hour and a half from Adelaide, the secluded Clare Valley is an enchanting journey. Behind every corner, there is a new discovery.

The region is all about experiencing. You can cycle the famed ‘Riesling Trail’, a 32km corridor, linking quaint towns, restaurants and wineries; or take a step back in time with a trip to Burra, a township famed for its mining heritage.

Mannum

Travel Time: 1 hour 14 mins

Set on the broad reaches of the Lower Murray, Mannum is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes from Adelaide via the South Eastern Freeway or the scenic route through Gumercha, Birdwood and Palmer. Mannum enjoys some of the best cruising waters on the entire Murray system and a number of houseboat operations are based in the town.

There are many tourist and native walks in and around Mannum. Just past the ferry and caravan park is a peaceful bird sanctuary with great picnic grounds. On the outskirts of the town the nature lover will discover the magnificent Mannum Waterfalls. The falls generally flow in winter and it's not recommended you walk from Mannum township in summer.
