The annual Midsumma Carnival is a staple on the LGBT calendar, inviting the community to get together and celebrate on the grass at Alexandra Gardens.

The itinerary is jam packed with lots of things to see and do. Here are some of the things we can’t wait for!

1. The Midsumma Carnival Dog Show

Yes, we haven’t mistyped. A bunch of good boys and girls will be shown in a number of cleverly named categories.

2. Drag Queens, singers and more.

Across five stages, carnival-goers can expect a full line-up of entertainment. The main stage will have performances including the Melbourne Rainbow Band, Belinda Davis (The Greatest Love of All: The Whitney Houston Show) and PO PO MO CO.

3. Lip Sync Limelight

If you’ve got lip syncing skills to burn, put them to the test for the chance to win prizes. You can choose your song too!

4. Fashion Design Competition

If you’ve got an eye for fashion, bring your best design to the carnival and you could win vouchers. Remember to bring your own model!

5. T Dance

As the sun goes down, the carnival becomes the ultimate dancefloor with a list of DJs playing your favourite tracks, including Miss Blanks, KillJoy and DJ Luke Agius. Midsumma advises this part of the day is recommended for people aged 16+.

6. Minus18 – Youth Precinct

Minus18 provides a safe area for younger members of the LGBT community to enjoy their day. A list of DJs will be there to ensure everyone has a great day.

7. Carnival Stalls Village

There are so many things to see at the Midsumma Carnival. Walk through stalls supporting community initiatives, products, events and more. There will also be 17 food trucks at hand to make sure you never go hungry!

8. Family Activities

There will be children’s activities for the little ones in the Families Precinct. There will even be a reading corner!

The 2018 Midsumma Carnival will be held on Sunday the 14th of January at Alexandria Gardens. The event officially kicks off at 11am.
