Termites are a big problem for residents of some Melbourne suburbs.
A list of areas with the worst termite problems has been put together by Rentokil based on the number of active termite removal contracts in each suburb.
Termite expert Luke Moore told The Age that the top suburbs have "new homes being built on what was previously undistributed termite territory". Termite control was not necessary in these areas until very recently.
Inner-city suburb Port Melbourne is also a termite hotspot due to houses built low to the ground near moisture.
Melbourne's worst suburbs for termite infestation

3 Truganina and Hoppers Crossing
5 Donnybrook, Craigieburn and Roxburgh Park

Termites are predicted to be a growing problem this summer due to increased moisture after a wet spring.
