SPOILER ALERT FOR STRANGER THINGS SEASON 3
SERIOUSLY SPOILERS TO FOLLOW
If you are still reading and you haven’t seen Stranger Things season 3, you only have yourself to blame.
The final episode of Stranger Things season 3 delivered one of the most shocking and upsetting deaths yet.
Jim Hopper died while saving Hawkins (and the world) from a combination of the Russians and the Mind Flayer. Our beloved main characters were devastated, with El subsequently leaving town with Joyce and her family.
But wait. We never saw a body. And what about that mid-credits scene where the Russians at a secret military base make reference to “The American”?
Could Hopper actually be alive and hidden in a Russian prison?
Well, it turns out the actor who plays Hopper, David Harbour, definitely seems to be hinting that his character is still alive!
Here’s what happened when SlashFilm asked David about the future of Hopper:
During an interview with David Harbour, I attempted to delicately get around the fate of Jim Hopper. Harbour, however, came right out and gave it to me straight. “This is the question I’m going to have to dance around–” I began, only for Harbour to interrupt me and ask, “The ending?” “Right,” I said. “Is there a way you can talk about the future of Hopper without…” I trailed off here, only for Harbour to ask: “Well, did you see the post-credits scene?”
I had, of course. And so I straight-up asked: is that Hopper behind the door? According to Harbour, that’s the most likely scenario. Throughout the season, the main Russian baddie refers to Hopper as “the American”, and having another Russian refer to the mysterious prisoner in the same way was the big giveaway.
Stranger Things season 4 has not yet been confirmed, but we’d say that it sounds highly likely that Hopper is not dead and will return if the show comes back!
