Getting public transport around Victoria is getting cheaper for some people from today.
It's thanks to the State Government finally caving to pressure surrounding the price and use of concession Myki cards.
For starters, kids up to the age of 5 can now travel for free, giving parents an extra year before they need to buy a Myki for their young ones. The eligibility age for a childrens ticket has also been lifted from 16 to 18, meaning concession fares are available to everyone up until their 19th birthday.
For a 17 or 18 year old who goes to work instead of school, that will save them up to $800 a year. Users are now also allowed to use a learners driver licence or Proof of Age card to prove their age, instead of the old PTV Student ID card.
Finally for concession ticket users young and old, there are new weekend fares which cap out at just $3 for all day travel.
