The Shining has remained a classic and acclaimed film since it was released in 1980, bringing the unnerving words of Stephen King to life.

Now, almost forty years later, the sequel to the story, Doctor Sleep, has been given the film treatment and stars Ewan McGregor as an adult Danny Torrence (Jack Nicholson’s son in The Shining).

It’s full of scares, twists and turns, horrific nightmares, and more…

The story follows Danny Torrence forty years after the events that took place in The Shining. Danny is still coming to terms with his past trauma when he meets a teenager (Kyliegh Curran) who has the same gifts as him and things take a turn for the worse.

The synopsis reads:

“Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace.  But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the ‘shine.’

"Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.

“Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before—at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.”

Doctor Sleep is directed by Mike Flanagan (The Haunting Of Hill House) and also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Bruce Greenwood and Jacob Tremblay.
