The M5 at Moorebank has been named as the worst road in NSW due to congestion, according to new data from the NRMA.

The study, which surveyed over 23,000 people on the state of NSW roads, is the largest survey of its kind in the state's history.

The M5 in Liverpool received the most votes for a specific location, with 510 people identifying it as having a very poor rating for congestion.

This was followed by Epping Road at Ryde, Pacific Highway at Coffs Harbour and Parramatta Road at Ashfield.

The NRMA data below has been collated based on the number of votes for each road for the category (congestion, safety or condition) listed.

  1. M5 at Moorebank - congestion - 510 votes
  2. Epping Road at Ryde - congestion - 474 votes
  3. Pacific Highway at Coffs Harbour - congestion - 439 votes
  4. Parramatta Road at Ashfield - congestion - 421 votes
  5. Pennant Hills Road at Ku-ring-gai - congestion - 395 votes
  6. Windsor Road (Hills District) - congestion - 237 votes
  7. Lane Cove Road at Ryde - congestion - 234 votes
  8. Military Road at Mossman - congestion - 229 votes
  9. Barton Highway (ACT) - safety - 228 votes
  10. Pacific Highway at Ku-Ring-Gai - congestion - 213 votes
