Port Adelaide stars Brad Ebert and Tom Jonas have launched their own wine label with typical South Aussie flair.

Hey Diddle is a collaboration with Tomfoolery Wines' Ben Chipman and Toby Yap, the Shiraz their first release from Barossa grapes.

I spoke exclusively to Brad Ebert - friend of the Amos, Cat and Angus show - about this exciting release, a top South Aussie drop.

How involved were you in the process of making the wine? Did it take you plenty of tastings to get it right or were you happy to leave it to the Tomfoolery boys?

"Ben Chipman is our chief winemaker and we left a majority of it to him but we certainly made sure the taste was progressing nicely. TJ [Tom Jonas] and I would get up when we could and help out as much as we could but for us it's been a learning process.

"We've also wax-sealed all 3,200 of the bottles. Pretty time consuming but we thought it'd be a nice touch."

Are you considering releasing more bottles of your Shiraz and even more varieties in the future?

"We've already got our 2018 Shiraz in the barrel now so we'll release that next winter. We also have a 2018 monte [Montepulciano] which we've made in a lighter style that we're looking to release later this year. We've got a couple other wines in the pipe works for next year but nothing 100% set in that space yet."

The label's great! Is there a meaning behind it?

"We got Burleigh based illustrator/graphic designer Luke Day to design our logo and label. Luke was a local Grange boy as a kid and I knew him growing up. Tom loved his work and didn't know the connection of him and I, so when he mentioned his name I knew we had to get him involved.

"We're looking to tell a story of 4 different stories behind Hey Diddle. The first label is a depiction of my childhood growing up on the beach in Adelaide. He felt he could relate to summer days jetty jumping and hanging down the beach and that's what he's portrayed in the design."

Do you see yourself getting into the wine industry after footy?

"I'd love to! At this stage it's been a passion of mine away from footy for a number of years, so to be able to learn the wine making process and the business behind it has been brilliant. If this can keep me involved in the industry post football then that would be great."

Importantly, is it available to the public now?

"It's open for pre-sale now on our website and we'll ship to people on the 1st August. It will also be available in time through certain restaurants and cellars throughout town."
