Margaret Atwood, the author of The Handmaid’s Tale, has announced a sequel to her hit 1985 novel is on the way!
Atwood took to Twitter to confirm rumours, revealing the follow up novel, titled The Testaments, is set 15 years after Offred’s final scene.
“Dear Readers: Everything you've ever asked me about Gilead and its inner workings is the inspiration for this book. Well, almost everything! The other inspiration is the world we've been living in,” she teased.
As for the ‘world we’ve been living in’ line, it seems Margaret is referring to the current political landscape in America.
“Since the election of Donald Trump as US President, Handmaids have become a symbol of women’s rights, standing against misogyny.”
The Testaments will be published worldwide on September 10th, 2019.
