The Everest is set to become Sydney’s first event with crowds post lockdown.

Australia’s richest turf race is set to be run on Saturday, October 16, just days after the city comes out of lockdown on October 11.

The NSW Government has confirmed the gates of Royal Randwick will open up to 5,000 fully vaccinated spectators.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro said the event could go ahead thanks to NSW residents adhering to rules in lockdown and getting vaccinated.

Minister for Racing Kevin Anderson says there will be strict health rules in place.

“This is not our first rodeo when it comes to having a Covid safe event on our racecourse, it happened in 2020, now here we find ourselves again in 2021 doing the same thing. So it will be under Covid safe rules and public health orders.”

The state is on track to have 70 percent of the eligible population vaccinated by October 6.
