It’s never too early to start talking Easter, and we are buzzing over the announcement that the 150th Bendigo Easter Festival set for 2020 will be lasting four days instead of three!

The fair was started in 1871 to raise funds for the Sandhurst Benevolent Asylum and Hospital, and was considered such a success that it has been held every year since, making it Australia’s longest ongoing community festival! The free event attracts around 80,000 people each year.

Prior to 2009, the festival was a four-day event, lasting from Easter Friday to Easter Monday, but was afterwards to changed to last only three-days, ending Easter Sunday. The Council has announced that the change back to the four-day festival will be for the 150th Festival only.

To recognise the significance of the 150th anniversary we thought it was fitting to extend the celebrations and entertainment for residents and visitors alike.

This change in format will mean the Gala parade will be held on Easter Monday. The Gala parade is considered the epitome of the festival, with local groups, charities and businesses showcasing their organisations through unique parade entries.
