A man has been charged after police allegedly located stolen items and a firearm in a hotel in St Marys.

St Marys Local Area Command searched a room in a hotel on the Great Western Highway at around 10am yesterday, according to NSW Police.

Police reportedly seized several fraudulent identification documents, credit cards and personal identification cards which were allegedly stolen.

A shortened shotgun and drug paraphernalia was also allegedly seized.

A 38-year-old man was arrested at the hotel and taken to Penrith Police Station.

He was charged with goods in custody, fraud offences and possess shortened firearm without authority.

The man was refused bail and will appear today before Parramatta Local Court.
