Kalgoorlie-Boulder residents have rejoiced this weekend after stores opened for the first time since year-round Sunday trading was approved for the town.

Every large supermarket and several franchises and small businesses reeled in the extra cash on Sunday after the long-awaited move received the tick of approval on Friday, March 15.

Coles and Woolworths both opened for the first time on Sunday between 9am and 2pm and both reported they were pleased with the community’s response.

Many residents expressed their gratitude on social media, for being able to shop for groceries and other necessities on a Sunday, particularly shift workers, who commented that the change made their lives easier.

Sunday trading was about giving people, both shoppers and retailers, a choice and looking at ways to improve the liveability of the town.

There was a boost to local cafes and food businesses too, and now people visiting or just passing through, have the option of spending money if it’s their only day here.

If the first Sunday is anything to go by, then Sunday trading in Kalgoorlie-Boulder should be a great success.
