Funded by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training, TAFE Queensland is the exclusive provider of the AMEP in Queensland, providing up to 510 hours of free English language tuition to eligible migrants and humanitarian entrants to assist with their settlement in Australia. The AMEP is funded by the Australian Government, with TAFE Queensland delivering the training throughout Queensland.

Michele Berkhout, Director of Corporate Services, South West Region, TAFE Queensland thanked the Grand Central retailers for their positivity toward the program.

“It’s fantastic to see major retailers like Myer, Coles & Target providing these students with valuable work experience placements that will give them a chance to experience a real, thriving retail environment,” she said.

“These work placements are a great opportunity for our AMEP students to practise their language skills and knowledge in a real life environment by engaging with customers and the Toowoomba community.”

Sophie Robertson, Store Manager Myer Toowoomba said Myer was thrilled to be partnering with TAFE Queensland to deliver this work experience program.

“The program’s participants joined the store at a very busy time of year, right in the middle of the Myer Stocktake Sale,” she said.

“It’s been wonderful to see them flourish at such a busy time of year - no task was too big or small.  They have made a wonderful contribution to our store and serving our customers.

“It’s a great result for the store, the community and the success of the program here in Toowoomba.  I’m also happy to announce that we are in a position to be able to offer ongoing positions to some standout participants.”
