On Monday morning, there were still no signs of a 26-year-old surf skier who went missing in hazardous conditions off North Stradbroke Island over the weekend.

Jordan Kelly is believed to be lost at sea. He and his friend, Jack McDonald, set off on a two-hour paddle but got in trouble when McDonald’s ski began taking on water.

It was understood that Kelly paddled over to McDonald and the pair were staying afloat by holding onto Kelly’s ski. The cold conditions and strong current made it difficult for the pair to keep their grasp of the ski and eventually, Kelly let go.

They paddled and paddled and paddled – and they literally didn’t move off the same sport, you know, over sort of five or six hours,” said Acting Senior Sergeant, Mitch Gray.

At some point, you know, Jordan’s let go of the ski, they’ve drifted away and when Jack could no longer see him, he’s gone for help,” he said.

Eight boats and four jet skis resumed the search on Monday morning and were prepared to continue until at least the end of the week.
