Traffic has been affected and people have been evacuated after a gas leak in the Sydney CBD.

NSW Ambulance has confirmed that 30 people have been evacuated from an office block on Pitt Street, but there are no patients requiring treatment at this stage.

All southbound lanes of Pitt Street are closed to traffic between Eddy Avenue and Railway Square, while all westbound lanes of Eddy Avenue have been closed between Elizabeth Street and Pitt Street.

Emergency crews are currently on site, and motorists are urged to avoid the area.

Light rail services have also been impacted, with trips starting and finishing at the Convention Centre.

The gas leak has been contained, but there are ongoing traffic delays as a result.
