The exhibition of the year will launch at BRAG on Saturday 24 February at 6pm with a free opening event the whole community is invited to attend. South West Now features artworks by 59 of the South West’s finest artists. The evening will feature live entertainment and a cash bar, and attendees will also receive a two-for-one entry voucher to the Fringe Finale Party which kicks off straight after the launch and provides the perfect opportunity to keep the revelry going late into the evening. An $8000 cash prize will be awarded to the winning artwork, which will be acquired into the City of Bunbury Art Collection. This will continue to build on the city’s 900 strong collection, which is an important resource supporting local artists and their work. Viewers will also have the chance to cast their own vote in the people’s choice award which will be presented at the close of the exhibition in May. South West Art Now is accompanied by a full catalogue, featuring profiles of all 59 exhibiting artists as well as essays on the important role of the arts in the South West, and in a regional context more generally. “The work undertaken by BRAG curator Alisa Blakeney - visiting artists in their studios, interviewing and photographing them - has created an exhibition and accompanying publication which will guide those who are interested in the art of our region for some time to come,” BRAG director Julian Bowron said. South West Art Now is made possible through the support of major sponsors Southern Ports Authority and Edith Cowan University. South West Art Now will be on show at BRAG from 24 February until 13 May. BRAG is open 10am to 4pm daily and entry is free.
