Six Cool Activities For Kids (And Big Kids) In This Scorching Hot Weather

Unless you’ve been living under an air-conditioned rock you’ll have noticed it’s been stinking hot lately.

And for those of us with children, you’ll know there’s nothing worse than having full-of-beans kids and nowhere cool for them to blow off steam.

If you’re struggling for places to go, we’ve put together a list of air-conditioned, sun-safe activities for you and the little ones! 

Museum – it might sound boring on the surface but loads of museums a) have fantastic exhibits dedicated to children and b) have school holiday programmes. Not to mention loads of museums let in kids for free, and seniors if you want to take Grandma.

Art Gallery – another left of centre idea but hear us out: wide open spaces with air-conditioning. There’s loads of room for little ones to let off steam and plenty of exhibitions are interactive or have activities for kids to complete while checking out the art. Stretch out your stay with lunch in the café and a glass of Rose for mum or dad!

Ice Skating – this is obvious right? Take the kids along to a public skating session and if you’re keen for a workout strap on some skates yourself. The little ones will be so knackered afterwards they’ll happily play inside for the rest of the day.

Pool – well this is self-explanatory. Your local pool is the place to be on hot days! Why not invest in a membership for the whole summer period?

Library –  educational AND sun safe! Loads of libraries have fantastic school holiday programmes so check out the schedule. Get the kids to stock up on books for the rest of the summer holidays and you’ll have them well stocked for the next hot day.

Movies – going to the cinema is notoriously chilly and for once this is welcomed! Sitting inside a cool, dark room, away from the heat and sun for a few hours, maybe even eating a choc top? The perfect hot day activity (this author once went to the movies TWICE in a day, one very hot summer).
