Two men have been arrested after a wounded man drove himself to hospital in a bullet-ridden car after being shot in Melbourne's north.

The 35-year-old Thomastown man took himself to the Epping Northern Hospital at about 3.15am on Wednesday with multiple gunshot wounds.

Two men were later arrested at an Alexander Avenue address at Thomastown following a stand off with police who cordoned off the area.

The pair are assisting police with inquiries.

The victim was transferred to Royal Melbourne Hospital but his damaged car remained taped off at Epping, with investigators at the scene.

Photos of the vehicle showed a driver's side window had been peppered with at least seven shots.

The man is in a stable condition and is assisting police.



Police are surrounding a house in Thomastown in Melbourne's north following reports of a siege situation.

News outlets have reported that a man has been led from the house in handcuffs while another remains inside.

"Police are currently responding to an incident at a residence on Alexander Avenue, Thomastown as part of an ongoing investigation," a Victoria Police statement reads.

"Critical Incident Response Team members are attending and the area has been cordoned off as a precaution. There is no threat to public safety. As the investigation is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment any further at this time."
