This week marks National Road Safety Week, urging Aussie drivers to take care.

The country wide initiative aims to shine a spot light on the far-reaching impact of trauma on our roads and importantly, encourage everyone to Drive So Others Survive.

Alarmingly, more than 12-hundred people are killed on the nation's roads every year and 40 thousand are left with devastating injuries.

Safer Australian Roads and Highways President, Peter Fraser, reinforced “the key for National Road safety Week, is that we all drive, so others survive”

"With drivers using a mobile phone more likely to be involved in a crash, we're asking people to put it in the glove box, get it away from you, because any distraction leads to the potential for someone to be seriously injured or killed", he said.

Every day this week, a key theme is being driven home for drivers, from protecting vulnerable road users, to slowing down and giving space.

To highlight road safety, iconic landmarks from coast to coast, will turn yellow.

If you want to show your support for safer roads, display a yellow ribbon or sticker on your car, motorbike, truck or bicycle.
