Union members vote with a majority

Public School teachers will go ahead with planned strikes on Thursday morning.

That's after an overwhelming majority of Union members voted to walk off the job.

The half-day industrial action will involve around 13,000 teachers who'll attend rallies before heading back to class around 12.15pm.

It comes after negotiations with the State Government over class sizes, extra resources and greater incentives for country work stalled.

The State Treasurer says education funding is up $200m on last year and will prioritise Literacy, Numeracy, Phonics and Entrepreneurship.

Parents are being urged to check with their child's school or pre-school to find out how services are affected.

Some will be running as normal, some with reduced staff and others closing.

Labor's Susan Close says "the teachers are after better conditions which will help our students, and the Government need to sit down with them and work it out".

"Strikes are really inconvenient for parents and no one wants to see them.. what we want is the Government to sit down and do a proper negotiation with our teachers" she said.
