Merewether surfer Ryan Callinan's giant killing run has continued at the Quiksilver Pro in France overnight.
He's beaten world number one Felipe Toledo to progress to round four of the Championship Tour event.
Toledo seemed to have everything under control, even scoring the event’s best ride of 9.00, and backing it up with 7.60.
But, Callinan never looked defeated and fought back to take an incredible come-from-behind victory with his last two efforts of a 7.93 and an 8.87.
(Fast-forward to about 35mins to see Ryan Callinan's heat)
“I was pretty lost in the moment, to be honest,” Callinan said.
“I just built through the heat and the two waves that came to me just happened to be beautiful waves with no lumps. It’s amazing out there. I feel like I belong there now. When I was on tour, I had a lot of big heats like that were close but never seemed to go my way. It seems to be switching around in this event so it’s great.”
Callinan advanced to his third round heat against Toledo after beating world number five Owen Wright.
His next match up will be against Brazilians Willian Cardoso and Adriano de Souza. A top two finish in that heat will see him into the quarter finals.
