A rodent was reportedly to blame for this morning's power outage, which cut supply to more than 2,600 homes and businesses in Estella, CSU, Euberta, Collingullie and Currawarna.

Essential Energy's Southern Regional Manager Mathew Rogers says initial investigations indicate a rodent came into contact with protection equipment inside the zone substation at Cartwright's Hill, causing significant damage to equipment.

Affected homes and businesses were without power from around 6am, some had theirs restored by 9.30, the remainder an hour later.
