Aussies are being urged to jump online to do their shopping, with retailers bracing for a heavy hit during lockdown in two of our biggest cities.

Billions are expected to be lost with stay at home orders in place in both Sydney and Melbourne, with The Australian Retailers Association estimating for every week of lockdown, retailers collectively lose $1 billion.

Fleur Brown from the ARA says they've been through enough.

"For people who want to support their local retailers, do jump online, support those local brands. It's not enough to offset the losses, but it certainly helps," she said.

An estimated $7 billion will be lost in trade over the lockdown period for Sydney and Melbourne.
