Townsville City Council will delay payment due dates for rates and utility charges due to the unprecedented flood.

Some residents may have already received their rates notice because they were posted before the monsoon started.

Council will push back the payment due date to ensure ratepayers have enough time to organise their finances and arrange payment.

Council will update the community with a new due date shortly.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said Council understands the huge hardships that residents in Townsville are going through.

“Please don’t stress if you have a rates notice in your mail, Council will extend the due date to relieve some pressure on our ratepayers,” Cr Hill said.

“If any ratepayers have been severely impacted by the floods, and experiencing financial hardship, please contact the Council to discuss individual payment arrangements.

“For the remainder of the community – the payment will be required on the delayed due date.”

The rates payments will be on hold until a resolution is put forward at the next full Council meeting later in the month.
