Albany’s annual Christmas Festival and Pageant will take over the city centre this weekend with a record number of floats ready to parade York Street.

At 6pm, 41 community groups and organisations will take over York Street on Saturday night in a colourful display of creative and whimsical Christmas floats.

The night will be filled with festive entertainment in Town Square from 3pm with aerial performances from Natural Wings which will captivate the crowd while Zap Circus excite with their Purple People Show and fire spectacular.

Mayor Dennis Wellington said he was looking forward to the event and hoped for good weather and a record turnout of spectators.

“We’re also excited to announce that extended trading hours have also been approved for the evening of the Christmas pageant meaning retailers will be able to take advantage of the increased activity in our CBD,” Mayor Wellington said.

The festivities kick off at 3pm and conclude at 8pm. Food and drink will be available.
