If you're wanting your clothes to dry, and you don't have a dryer, then you might be waiting a little longer than you like.

The Bureau of Meteorology say the rain is hanging around for at least the next week, with heavy falls across the weekend.

Since 9am yesterday Cairns Airport has received 111mm of rain, 54 of that was between 9pm and 3am this morning.

Flood warnings are now in place for the Daintree, Tully and Mulgrave rivers.

Strong wind warnings have also been issued for Cairns and Cooktown, getting up to 30 knots.

A strong ridge of high pressure is bringing strong winds and weak monsoon trough up in the Torres Strait is said to be causing the deluge.

Things will calm down from Sunday but our temperatures will stay around the 30 mark as showers ease.

Currently we have these issues on our roads:

Water over road at Middle creek on the Yarrabah Road

Mossman – Mount Molloy Road at Bushy creek closed

Mossman Daintree road reduced to one lane due to small landslip

Water damaged to the Gillies range. Rough surface due to potholes. Reduced speed in place between Boar Pocket Road and Powley Road (just before lake Barrine).
