Police searching man following attempted Long Gully theft

Police are calling for witnesses

Bendigo police are on the hunt for a Caucasian male in his 30's who is believed to be responsible for an attempt to steal an ATM from a Long Gully supermarket last night.

CCTV footage observed the offender smashing his way through the front doors of the IGA on Wood St around 11pm before tying a rope to the ATM and attempting to pull it away with his vehicle.

Upon failing, he fled and the car used in the theft - which is believed to have been stolen - was found torched nearby by emergency services.

The ATM was damaged but the cash compartment remained in tact.
