A sawn-off shotgun and drugs are among a haul of items seized, after police searched a vehicle at Paradise Point in the early hours of this morning.
Officers pulled a suspicious car over on Oxley Drive on Jabiru Island around 1:30am on Monday, allegedly finding a loaded, shortened .22 firearm, ammunition, a quantity of methyl-amphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.
A 48-year-old Worongary man was arrested at the scene.
He was scheduled to face the Southport Magistrates Court later that day, charged with one count each of unlawfully possessing a weapon, possessing explosives (ammunition), possessing a dangerous drug and failing to dispose of a syringe.
Detective Inspector Brendan Smith was happy to see the gun taken off the streets, saying each unlawful weapon seized made the community safer.
“There is no lawful reason to possess a cut-down weapon and possession of one carries heavy penalties.
"Weapon crime is one of our highest priorities,” Detective Inspector Smith said.
