It was harder than usual getting out of bed this morning.
Parts of the Hunter shivered through their coldest weather in more than a decade, as the mercury plunged below freezing.
Cessnock dipped to -4.9 degrees at 5:16am, its coldest temperature since 2002. The wind chill made it feel like -8 degrees.
Even coastal suburbs felt the winter freeze, with the mercury dropping to 4.7 degrees at Nobbys, the coldest it's been since 2003.
