Sydney traffic is getting worse and worse these days, and this weekend it’s gonna be on a whole other level.

It has just been announced that the M4 Motorway will be shut down over the long weekend, starting tomorrow.

It will be closed as work continues on The Northern Road upgrade in Penrith.

They are currently installing a new bridge over the M4 at The Northern Road, so now the existing bridge needs to be removed.

The M4 will be closed from 9pm on Friday, June 7 until 4am on Tuesday, and on June 11 in both directions at The Northern Road.

During the closure, traffic will be diverted up and over The Northern Road interchange ramps.

An alternative detour will also be in place via the Great Western Highway as well. Motorists are advised to follow directions of traffic controllers on site.

Allow extra travel time and expect delays.
