Parks Victoria have put out the call for Sunraysia residents to prepare for hot weather when venturing into national park lands.

With temperatures in the forties, a total fire ban has been declared for the Mallee region.

The ban includes camp fires and BBQs , with around 10 % of bush fires caused by escaped camp fires.

Locals are being urged to stay hydrated and cool, report all fires, and assist those who aren't feeling well in the heat.

The call has been backed by the Department of Health and Human Services - who have issued a Heat Health alert for the upcoming hot weather.
