The Far West Local Health District is reminding local residents there's less than a week left of the official My Health Record opt-out period.

The aim of the records is so that everyone's medical information can be stored in one place, and shared securely online with their health professionals.

The aim is to have information available to a wide range of health professionals, to allow for comprehensive medical care.

Those who don't want their important medical information stored securely online have until NOVEMBER 15 to officially opt out of the program.

My Health Record's Karen Sims says the system allows doctors and health professionals to securely store and update vital patient information.
