The Premier is defending the roadmap out of lockdown, despite concerns from health experts that the hospital system will be overrun.

Once we hit the 70 per cent vaccination target, fully vaccinated people can go to pubs, cafes, restaurants, gyms, hairdressers and even travel to regional New South Wales.

Gladys Berejiklian has told Seven the re-opening plan is safe because it's only for vaccinated people.

"The vast majority of people who end up in hospital or intensive care have not been vaccinated. And when they have, they've also had an underlying serious condition. So the vaccine is a wonderful weapon and if not at 70 per cent double dose, if you don't start opening up, then when?," she said.

However, case numbers are expected to peak in New South Wales in the week or so while hospitalisations are expected to soar next month.
