A New Zealand supermarket chain has been forced to recall 250KG of mince because pieces of a mobile phone could be found in it.
The Ministry for Primary Industries has issued the recall on all minced meat packed in trays or sold over the counter which were packed on September 22 at the Pak'n'Save in Auckland.
The owners of the supermarket said there was likely to be foreign matter in the meat, specifically a staff mobile phone which, contrary to protocol, had been taken into the production area.
"It would appear that it fell un-noticed into the mincer. The team responsible will be retrained to ensure that such an event does not occur in the future," a spokeswoman said.
