Safety in Sydney suburbs has become a major concern for residents as Sydney has been recorded with the highest number of murders in NSW.

Statistics from the 2017 NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research shows that there were more murders in the Canterbury-Bankstown region than anywhere else in New South Wales.

Less than a week ago, Ho Ledinh was shot dead at the Happy Cup Café in Bankstown, marking the first murder for the year.

The report shows that there were 60 murders around the state in 2017 with eight of those killings taking place in Canterbury-Bankstown.

Blacktown and the Central Coast had five each and Sydney, Bayside, Parramatta and the Sutherland Shire also had one murder each.

Although Sydney maintains the highest recorded region for murders in the state, the number has remained stable since 2016.
